Smoked Malt + Stout + Belgian Yeast = 4Shadow. Are we innovators or just out of our minds?

We released 4Shadow last Friday, and it’s had a warm welcome. When Jason came to me saying he wanted to brew a smoke beer, I was game. When he said it would be a smoked stout, I was excited. When he said he’d be using our Belgian yeast strain, I was just confused - apparently he had overloaded my ability to process information.

Well, I have to say that 4Shadow is truly like nothing I’ve ever tasted. I Googled “Belgian Smoked Stout” or some variant in order to see if such a concoction has been done in the past, but I found nothing.  So until some monk comes forward to tell me otherwise, I’m just going to assume we were the first ones crazy enough to think this up.

The official 4Shadow description, and a picture to wet your appetite:

The dark harbinger of La Muerta, signaling its imminent unfurling at the tap.  Black with notes of roasted coffee, warm campfire smokiness, dark fruit and subtle spice - the 4Shadow forebodes an even darker future for the wary denizens of Freetail.
