The excitement and activity continue around HB 660.

My fellow brewers and I had a great meeting last night at the Draught House – one of the brewpubs that could benefit from this bills passage.  I even bumped into several folks who I’m accustom to seeing across the bar at Freetail during bottle releases.

One of the most exciting take aways from our meeting was the decision to brew a collaboration beer.  HB (House Brown) 660 will be a robust, hoppy brown ale (6.60% ABV, 66.0 IBU) that you’ll be able to find at different times during the spring at Freetail, Blue Star, Uncle Billy’s, North by Northwest and Draught House to start with, and we’re trying to add more brewpubs to the list. We’ll be brewing ours probably at the end of next week at Freetail, and it should be hitting the taps in early February.  Of course, you won’t be able to find this beer at your local grocery store or neighborhood bar.  You’ll have to visit the closest brewpub.  For those of you in places like Houston or Corpus Christi (for example) that means a long drive.  Actually, we wouldn’t make you drive all that way… we’ll post the recipe so you can brew it at home!

On the heels of last week’s WOAI Channel 4 interview (which I can’t find online – if you happen to see it, let me know!), I’ll be doing an interview with KENS 5 this afternoon, and Representative Mike Villarreal and Blue Star founder and owner Joey Villarreal will also be featured.  Not word on when it will air – my guess would be either the 6 or 10pm newscast.

Last night I worked with the fine gentlemen of Beer Town Austin to put together a cool video on HB 660 – look for that next week!

This was a short one.  ‘Til tomorrow!
